Chapter 12 — Manifesto analysis#
Ocarina’s Holy Book is more than technical documentation: it’s a manifesto. This chapter unpacks every sourced quote, traces the subcultures behind them, and explains the underlying movement they embody.
You don’t read Ocarina as a framework you pick up “because it’s good”. You adopt it because you heard the slogan. The slogan comes from elsewhere. The “elsewhere” is documented here.

Why the culture?#
Reading 02-ocarina/* without reading this is like understanding the instrument without hearing the score. Ocarina’s technique (ROP, types, laziness, composition) is coherent because it’s animated by an ethic. That ethic isn’t a decorative preamble: it’s what ruled out every feature, every DSL, every alternative shortcut. And that ethic comes from a scene — the historical hacker scene of 1999–2011 — which this chapter maps.
